Based on my belief, and I think others will share with my belief if you have read about this or personally observed it is do not all have the same anchor text.

Like in the globalwarming awareness2007 contest I had various anchor text, some were "learn about global warming" "globalwarming awareness blog" and other combinations.

Homepage links work but I believe giving him a deep link as well will also help. Visit his site and link also to some deep page.

I don't believe in bilgaan ng sitewide links. Minsan pag sobrang dami ang dinagdag in a short span of time tapos sitewide, it can give a temporary or even permanent slight decrease in ranking. I think a blog post is better with a link to the homepage and one to an inside page. Although if you want to give a sitewide link, I suggest use a variation of "shopautodotca seocontest" like:
