Default old information - 05-09-2007, 11:22 AM

hi

i have a site designed long time ago - the client now works for coldwell banker, but when you google her up, it comes up that the client is still tied up with premier properties.

the site is http://www.sandrarichards.com/ and try googling her with "Sandra Richards" and you will see something like:

Sandra Richards - Premier Properties but shouldn't be the case since she doesn't work anymore at Premier Properties.

Any idea why google is still associating her with Premier Properties and how do i fix this?

thanks

I have heard of a few similar cases like this happening (e.g. old phone numbers staying in the snippet months AFTER the page with an updated phone number is cached) and to my knowledge, up until now, noone has been able to satisfactorily explain why this is happening.

But in your case, if I may offer a simple "insight", the problem, it seems, is less complex than the similar example mentioned above.

There simply isn't enough text in the current google cache on the said page for google to formulate and display a good informative snippet. In such cases, Google will either display NO snippet or draw a snippet from historical data that can still be found in their records. And in your case, it seems, google is drawing from historical data.

The easiest solution is to put a meta description tag on the said page and wait for the cache to be refreshed. If that doesn't work, reconstruct the said page to include more cache-able text.

Google sometimes gets SERP display data from DMOZ.

Go to this page and you'll see this:
Quote:
Sandra Richards - Premier Properties - Real estate services and homes for sale in Incline Village, Tahoe and Reno
That might be the reason why Google isn't picking up your new TITLE.

Try removing the DMOZ titles and descriptions and make Google read your actual title and descriptions. That should do the trick. After implementing it, in my experience, it took about 2 days to see the changes in the SERPs. But this is a frequently updated website, thus the crawl rate is also high. For sites that don't change that often, I do not know how fast this technique will kick in. use NOODP and NOYDIR to fix it.
